The State of Maryland Central Payroll Bureau (CPB) is migrating its legacy system to a Workday-based platform in January 2027. This page will include information provided directly by the State as well as jointly coordinated communications between Payroll Services, University Human Resources, and DIT Enterprise Resource Planning.
For University of Maryland employees, the state implementation will improve the user experience towards paperless and employees will access state forms and state documentation via an improved employee portal in the future state.
- Currently, UMD employees access the Statewide Personnel System (SPS) only to manage benefits.
- Beginning in January 2027, functionality in SPS will be expanded beyond benefits, and employees will use the improved Statewide Personnel and Payroll System or SPPS portal for state payroll activities such as direct deposit forms, withholding forms, payslips, and more.
- Students will have access to the new state Workday portal in future state.
- The current Payroll Online Service Center will be retired at a future date to be determined by the State.
For University of Maryland Workday users with HCM security roles (such as HR Analyst, HR Partner, HR Division Partner, Central HR Partner, etc.), HCM transactions will still be processed within UMD Workday.
- Payroll Services, UHR, and DIT are working closely together to implement state-required changes and to update existing user resources.
- Updates will be shared on this site, in regular HR Representative and HR Partner meetings, on the DIT-ERP monthly Workday Wire newsletter, as well as additional channels to be announced.
Due to changes in the state processing schedule, there will be key changes in the Payroll Calendar. CPB is going paperless with State Forms.
