Overloads

Overloads are work done by any 100% full-time equivalent (FTE) staff/faculty or 50% FTE graduate assistant in addition to their regular appointments. Overloads must be approved prior to the work being done.

All overloads have to be created as Teaching or Non-Teaching Overload appointments in PHR so they can be routed to the appropriate approval unit. Regular employee overloads have to be approved by UHR. Faculty overloads are approved by Academic Affairs. Graduate Assistant overloads are approved by the Graduate School.

International students cannot have an overload during the Fall/Spring semesters.

Generally, overloads should NOT be done as a non-standards. Exceptions include graduate assistants performing up to 40 hours of non-teaching during the Summer/Winter sessions. All other exceptions should be discussed with Payroll Services prior to creating the Non Standard Appointment and Adjustments.
